Connecting iWork and Dropbox

April 14th, 2011 2 comments

This just came out in the ProfHacker column in the Chronicle. Dropbox is now accessible to iWork applications (Pages, Keynote, Numbers). It does work slightly differently than the usual link to Dropbox, so do be aware that with this approach, your information stays on your iPad until you send it to dropbox again via WebDav, and it only COPIES to Dropbox, so you’ll end up with multiple copies of a file in Dropbox. But it is a way to get to Dropbox from iWork apps.

Dropbox is an app for storing and sharing files, easily accessible by a variety of apps. You can also download this application to your pc or laptop from the Dropbox website. Does not allow real-time online collaboration on a single document. Does have drag and drop capabilities on the desktop application for uploading or downloading files.

Evernote

Evernote is an app for your mobile devices and an application for your computer(s), for storing and sharing files and multimedia. It’s great for collaborative projects with students who all work online on a single electronic document; requires a premium membership for some features, including aforementioned online editing. No drag and drop capabilities on the desktop application for adding or downloading files . . . unless there are and I’ve missed them. Let me know.
